Project accountant
Hoffman & McNamara Nursery and Landscape has an immediate opening for a Project Accountant. We are seeking a motivated, detail-oriented individual looking to grow with our team. Primary Job Summary:
We’re looking for an organized and dependable Project Accountant who enjoys working with numbers, keeping projects financially on track, and collaborating with others. In this role, you’ll work closely with our Project Managers to manage project billing, job costs, subcontractor payments, contracts, and financial documentation from project setup through closeout.
Compensation:
$25-30 per hour with overtime after 40 hours. After an onboarding period of 30 days, benefits include health, dental, and vision insurance, HSA, PTO, and paid holidays. Eligible for Profit sharing will be available after completing one year of service. Opportunity for advancement within our company.
Work Hours:
Full-time, 40 hours weekly with a flexible schedule year-round, with overtime after 40 hours during seasonal periods. Peak season for this role is primarily during the months of September through December. Work during this period will be more towards 45 hours a week.
What You’ll Do
Keep our projects financially accurate and organized from setup through closeout.
Update project budgets and billing files when change orders are approved.
Assist with generating and distributing job cost reports.
Own project invoicing for Our Landscape Dept.
Prepare and process progress invoices based on project milestones.
Ensure customer invoices are accurate and completed on time.
Manage Accounts Receivable follow-up to help keep project payments on track.
Manage subcontractor payments and documentation.
Process subcontractor pay applications accurately and on time.
Manage required lien waivers, insurance certificates, and payment checklists.
Ensure required documentation is complete before subcontractors are paid or clients are billed.
Help Safeguard H&M Financial and Contractual Interests.
Review contracts to help ensure terms are fair and in the best interest of Hoffman & McNamara.
Maintain contract compliance throughout the project.
Ensure job cost allocations, customer invoices, and subcontractor payments are accurate.
Partner with our Project Managers.
Work closely with Project Managers to review project updates, commitments, and financial progress.
Provide support to Project Management and Controller during non-peak seasons.
Ask for assistance when needed and jump in on other priorities as directed by H&M leadership.

Confident communicating and collaborating with Project Managers, subcontractors, customers, and internal team members.
Focused on accuracy and completing work on time.
Comfortable asking questions and seeking help when needed.
Adaptable and willing to support the team wherever needed.
Preferred Qualifications
· Associates degree in accounting, finance or a related field.
Experience in project accounting, construction accounting, Accounts Receivable, bookkeeping, or a related field.
Experience with progress billing, job costing, or subcontractor pay applications.
Experience working with contracts, lien waivers, insurance certificates, or other construction-related documentation.
Construction, landscaping, or project-based accounting experience is a plus.
